New Taiwan dollar

The New Taiwan Dollar (TWD) is the official currency of Taiwan, first issued in 1949. It is identified by the ISO 4217 code TWD and is commonly represented by the symbols $ or NT$. The issuance and management of the New Taiwan Dollar are overseen by the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Commonly used banknotes include denominations of 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 2000 yuan, along with coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 yuan. According to statistics from the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, from January to September 2023, over 770,000 Hong Kong residents have visited Taiwan, leading to a strong demand for exchanging New Taiwan Dollars. Currently, all currency exchange shops in Hong Kong facilitate the buying and selling of New Taiwan Dollars.
