The Uruguayan Peso (UYU) is the official currency of Uruguay, first introduced in 1896. It is identified by the ISO 4217 code UYU and is commonly represented by the symbols $ or $U. The Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay is responsible for issuing and managing the Uruguayan Peso. Currently, circulating Uruguayan Peso banknotes include denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 2000 Pesos, along with coins in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50.
